Okay, so as some of you already know by now and those that don’t will pick this up real quick, the101 are probably my favorite band right now, if not ever.
The Brooklyn 3 piece, Ben Balcomb, Jeremy Jones and Eric Richter are the new masters of the 3 minute, catchy, energetic, indie pop song and on a hot, humid Monday night they did nothing but re-enforce the fact that they are some of the best at what they do.
After conversations about “Keeping Up Appearances”, “The Office” and how the Broncos are the best American Football team ever (49ers all the way baby!) they finally hit the stage about an hour and a half late!
Not that it ever was a problem as The101s set was tight. Launching with new tracks on the block “Ordinary” and then “Numbers” they mixed the old and new tracks together in a way that always keeps the fans happy and capping the set with the mighty, buzzing and screeching “Regret” they surely now how to end one!
Vocalist and guitarist, Eric Richter is so in the present with The101 it seems that his former bands are a long distant memory, and in light of their performance there surely can be no looking back now.
With their first (proper) North American tour due in the autumn I predict only good things are gonna come their way.
(I must remember to take a better camera next time)
And so there we were, at 4.00 Saturday morning picking up the neighbours cat from the road where it had be struck by a car at some point during the night. If it wasn’t for the drunk couple stopping to have a gander from the shopping trolling in which they were traveling, then both Rachel and I would have slept through the whole night to wake to cat spread all across the street.
As it were we stepped out in the early morning light in pretty much our bed clothes, bagging up dead things and a cliché thunderstorm flashing and rumbling in the distance, I’m sure I felt the gaze from a few twitching curtains. In fact I can just imagine the local gossip now being passed over the garden fences.
“Weird couple from number 43 have just reached a whole new level of weirdness!”
Well, we try not to disappoint.
Wow, has it really been over a month since I last blogged. My excuse? I blame all this heat we’re currently being subjected to. I’m pretty sure the UK was never designed to be hot, okay so it’s not Sahara hot and maybe we’re just moaning Brits but when the heat turns to humidity and you spend your days being visited by Betty Swollocks and her evil sidekick Netty Swuts it does kinda wear you down.
Looking back June was a super busy month with gardens landscaped, weekends away and websites created and the work doesn’t look like it’s gonna stop any-time soon. Although I have promised myself that next year is a year of no DIY. The odd putting-up-a-shelf maybe, a lick of paint here and there perhaps, but not full on, take up half a year jobs. If it does then I’ll cut my losses and get someone in to do it for me!
But at long last to make it all seem better for a while, the new album by the the101 landed about a week ago and I can’t get enough of it, super good. The boys are playing live on Monday (24th) in Stockwell so I think I should make the effort and go to hurl some abuse. I have a better camera phone now so my live shots will be considerably better than my last (failed) attempts.
